Gala Yaroshevsky attended a special school for gifted children in her native Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She received her performing and teaching degrees from Tashkent State Conservatory. After moving to the United States in 1997, Gala has actively performed and taught music in Bay Area. In 2006 she founded Orange Music Studio, where students of all ages receive professional guidance in all music disciplines. Gala strives to bring musical awareness to the community and in her free time enjoys spending time with her two young children.
The Orioles got together 3 years ago, when the youngest of them, the little Sasha, was only 5. Their parents told them it was a play date and they still believe that. It is extremely rewarding to watch them grow up using music as one of their nutrition source. They laugh a lot together, and though they all develop their own musical preferences, they are learning how to compromise and work as a team.
Gala says, “I started conducting the Avant Flute Choir in January 2014. Since then we quadrupled in size and had to be split into two separate groups. San Jose Youth Symphony is providing such a great opportunity for the young musicians to explore various musical aspects. They get to play in orchestras and chamber ensembles, attend master classes, have coaching sessions with amazing musicians, learn different extended repertoire.
For me as a conductor, it’s magical to watch that moment when they realize that their own part, no matter how small, is so important to the music in its contribution, when they make that leap from playing an instrument to making music. I can not imaging anything more rewarding that that.”
